It is produced by the Ursini family at their estate in Abruzzo, where basil plants are planted between the olive trees. When the olives are ready to be processed, the basil goes along for the ride and turns the oil a glorious shade of green. The smooth, fruity olive oil is the perfect match for the sweet, slightly peppery flavour of fresh basil.
This extra virgin olive oil is extremely versatile, adding a burst of basil flavour to vinaigrettes, aioli and grilled meat and fish. It’s best used as a finishing oil, added to your dish just before serving. Try swirling it over a pizza Margherita or adding a dash to a rich sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes. It will instantly elevate the flavours of a caprese salad or a creamy courgette and lemon risotto.
